Sourdough Basics Class, Saturday, November 23rd, 2024, 9:30am-2pm at Home Bakery and Herbal Garden
What you will learn and take from the class:
-Learn how to make a traditional slow fermented loaf of sourdough bread from start to finish.
-You will learn the history of wheat, how to mill your own wheat and different scoring techniques.
-You will take home a sourdough mother in a mason jar with some flour to feed her. You will also learn how to take care of her.
-We will have freshly baked sourdough bread with organic vegetables and herbs grown at the garden for lunch. Other locally sourced sides will be available as well.
-You will make your own sourdough bread in class, that you will then finish by baking it at home 3-36 hours after class. For this reason, please place your fermenting class loaf in a fridge as soon as you arrive home from class.
-You will need to purchase* a round dutch oven or cast-iron casserole dish that can fit a 9-inch loaf to bake the bread at home if you don’t have one. Also, you will need to have at home: home oven that can reach 500 F, oven mits & a bread knife. There are other ingredients and tools that I recommend purchasing in order to make sourdough bread at home. You will receive a list with resources and suggestions. *If you aren’t able to purchase a Dutch oven/cast iron casserole dish with lid, please reach out to Katia for other baking suggestions prior to the class.
-Recipe booklet.
-You will take home a round 9-inch basket for rising, cotton towel, plastic bag, razor and scraper.
-Ongoing support during your baking journey through a what’s app class chat group with all the past sourdough basics class students.
The class will take place at Mother Earth Miami (Katia’s) Micro Home Bakery & Herbal Garden in Miami Shores, Fl. You may park on the driveway or in front of the house.
We will have an Herbal plant walk to gather herbs and flowers to eat and make herbal tea with.
All children are welcome accompanied by an adult.
You may bring your own preferred drink, outdoor weather clothes, apron and comfortable standing shoes. We will be using our bare hands a lot to mix, knead etc.
Class will start on time due to the long labor of making sourdough bread with love and care.
After registration: you will be invited to a what’s app chat group called ‘sourdough basics class.’ In that group chat you will receive additional information about the class.
Cancellation policy: For a full refund you may cancel 7 days before class. The class materials are prepared one week prior to the class date, so no refunds will be made after that period of time. If you miss the class and don’t cancel a week before but you wish to take the class, you may take the next class date at 50% off.
